This is pretty much the standard way I make spaghetti if I'm in a hurry. Below is my alternative recipe, which takes up a little more time but makes it slightly more homemade. Serve over regular noodles or high fiber noodles. Serve with garlic bread and Caesar Salad. For spaghetti topping, use fresh grated parmesan cheese or "fresh" mozzarella slices.
Sauce:
Ground Beef
Sliced mushrooms (optional)
Saute beef and mushrooms together until cooked. Then add...
Ragu "Garden Combination"
1 small can Contadina brand tomato paste (regular/plain flavor, don't get Italian flavored!!!)
Splash of Worcestershire sauce
Splash of sherry cooking wine
Dash of Italian seasoning herb blend
1 bay leaf
Cayenne pepper (optional)
Simmer sauce on low heat with a lid while noodles are cooking.
Alternate recipe ideas:
Make same as above, except...
Saute onions and garlic with the meat, with a little salt and pepper added.
Substitute for the Ragu sauce--large can diced or crushed tomatoes and regular sized can tomato sauce.
Add extra Italian herbs, use fresh herbs (oregano, basil) if available.
Add about a teaspoon of sugar.
Add some spicy sliced Italian sausage or beef/turkey/pork meatballs.
For a vegetarian version, use TVP, eggplant, or falafel
